The best alternative is Feedly, which is free. There are more than 100 alternatives to QuiteRSS for a variety of platforms, including Online / Web-based, Android, iPhone, Linux and Mac. It's possible something went sideways during the upgrade (there were a few hiccups with old/held packages), but all packages show as fine now, and all the QuiteRSS dependencies appear uniform, no odd mismatched versions or anything. QuiteRSS is described as 'Cross-platform RSS/Atom news feed reader written using Qt' and is a very popular RSS Reader in the news & books category.
